About

Flynn McGarry first stepped into the kitchen at the age of 10, cooking for his mother’s friends and creating a full-fledged supper club, Eureka, in their family home. In the years that followed, he staged and worked in some of the top restaurants in Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle, including Alma, Eleven Madison Park, and Alinea—all before he was 16.

At age 19, McGarry opened his first permanent fine dining restaurant, Gem, in New York City's Lower East Side neighborhood. In November that same year, he was the subject of the documentary Chef Flynn that debuted in theaters nationwide. In 2022 he opened Gem Wine, a small wine bar with a focus on low intervention wines.

Today, he operates Gem Home, an extension of McGarry's interests in food, design, and travel. Gem Home offers a diverse array of contemporary design objects and vintage finds, all sourced by McGarry on his travels around the world. At the entrance of Gem Home, visitors can find a selection of these objects adjacent to a section for fresh groceries and speciality items. A café in Gem Home’s rear provides a daily rotating menu of freshly prepared foods crafted with seasonal ingredients from local farms.

In the fall of 2025 McGarry will open his most ambitious project yet, Cove. Cove will be a 90 seat restaurant with both Ala carte and set menu options focused on east coast produce.
